What’s giving me all these headaches?

Are you a mother holding down a high-pressure job while raising young children and managing your home? Or perhaps you have teenage children with all the challenges they bring. If so the stresses you are coping with day-to-day may be causing you to get headaches on a regular basis. How many times have you taken pain-killers while telling yourself that this is not the answer? You would like a pill-free solution but you don’t know what it is.

Understanding why you’re getting headaches can help you find that solution, and this is something that, as an osteopath & health coach, I am well-placed to help you with. During the months of July and August I am offering a free evaluation to anyone suffering from headaches.

Headaches fall into five broad categories:

  1. The first type is the “tension headache,” so called because it is caused by tight muscles in the neck and shoulders. Very often the sufferer is stressed and the tension seems to focus in the neck and upper back.
  2. Second is the lifestyle headache: this may be caused by too much coffee or alcohol, or insufficient water intake, or perhaps not getting enough sleep – pain is always worse when we haven’t slept well or enough.
  3. The third cause of headaches is dietary and usually relates to too many sugars and simple carbohydrates, combined with inadequate intake of vegetables. Food intolerances may also contribute to a dietary headache.
  4. Pain killers – when the pain killers wear off, we can get what’s called a rebound headache. This can become a chronic problem which spirals out of control.
  5. Finally and most seriously, but fortunately least likely, are pathologies such as high blood pressure, stroke and brain tumours. If you have a new and different headache, and you have other symptoms such as dizziness or vomiting then you need to take it seriously. In this case, pain-killers are not the answer. You should consult a doctor as a matter of urgency.

If you need help identifying the cause of your headaches, you can take advantage of my offer of a free assessment to help you get to the root cause of your headaches. Just call 01234 409538 to make your appointment.
