A Stitch in Time – coaching for people supporting older parents

Hot on the heels of last Saturday’s conference for people supporting older parents, I am really pleased to announce that I am offering a free one hour coaching session for anyone coping with the demands of their elderly parent(s).

Supporting elderly parents

This session will give you a chance to explore exactly what the challenges are for you day-to-day and in the longer term. Together we will look at what would be most useful to you in terms of support and coaching, and then I will put together a proposal for a series of coaching sessions, tailored to your individual circumstances.

Many of us are still working, sometimes full-time, and at the same time having to respond to the needs of our parents, whether it be in a crisis, or on a day-to-day basis. This can put tremendous strain on you, the (now adult) child. It may be you need information and advice, or support with communicating with your parents – or with doctors or a care home.

The issues that arise in relation to the elderly include:

  • financial planning
  • wills and powers of attorney
  • care homes and other types of accommodation
  • care in the person’s own home
  • health problems including dementia
  • difficulties with communication
  • coping with the changing relationship between parent and child

As a coach, I can help you find the personal resources you need to cope with the challenges you are facing; and I can point you in the direction of other professionals who can provide help and support with specific issues such as care and financial planning. Perhaps most importantly I will encourage you to put measures in place for self-care – if you are not looking after yourself, your own health will suffer and then you will be unable to provide the support your parents need.

The goal of coaching is for you to become better resourced so that you can face the challenges of life with confidence and equanimity. This is just as relevant for those supporting elderly parents as it is for people in demanding jobs and younger adults raising children.

If you would like to book your free one-hour session, you can either phone 01234 409538 and ask for a coaching taster, or you can book online – just click the green button. To find out more, you can email me: sorrel@oxalisosteopathy.co.uk.
