About Bedford Integrative Health Centre
Empowering, nurturing and promoting health and well-being
At Bedford Integrative Health Centre, our therapists take an interest in you as a whole person, considering all your health conditions, lifestyle, diet and exercise, and tailoring the treatment to best suit your needs.
Our therapies include osteopathy, coaching, nutritional therapy, energy therapy, and Bach Flower Remedies. Where appropriate our team of practitioners work together to help you find your own path to health and wellness.
Because we work as a team, you can be sure that you will be referred to the practitioner most able to help you with your health care. In some cases two or more practitioners will be involved in your care. For instance if you come with M.E. or fibromyalgia you may see Sorrel, the osteopath, for the Perrin Technique, and Helen, our nutritionist, may also advise you on the best nutrition to speed your recovery.
We find that in many cases, patient recovery is faster and more effective when we combine our individual skills, and offer a multi-practitioner solution. With your consent and always acting in your best interests we would also suggest keeping your GP updated about your treatment programme. This way of working alongside medical practitioners means that we are truly integrative, helping the patient to make the best use of medical and complementary health care.
The Defining Principles of Integrative Medicine
- Patient and practitioner are partners in the healing process.
- All factors that influence health, wellness, and disease are taken into consideration, including mind, spirit, and community, as well as the body.
- Appropriate use of both conventional and alternative methods facilitates the body’s innate healing response.
- Effective interventions that are natural and less invasive should be used whenever possible.
- Integrative medicine neither rejects conventional medicine nor accepts alternative therapies uncritically.
- Good medicine is based in good science. It is inquiry-driven and open to new paradigms.
- Alongside the concept of treatment, the broader concepts of health promotion and the prevention of illness are paramount.
- Practitioners of integrative medicine should exemplify its principles and commit themselves to self-exploration and self-development.
These principles were developed by the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine, part of the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ. Our thanks is due to ACIM for permission to re-state these principles on our website.
